45m span tensile fabric roof with additional cable-net for sound proofing

StructureMode have been shortlisted for the ACE Engineering Excellence Awards 2013.

The Hub is a new build steel and tensile fabric structure. The main canopy is 45m diameter, with two 20m high masts and an arched truss over the mouth of the stage area.

We developed and form-found a mesh for the outer tensioned fabric canopy and designed the supporting steelwork frame.

We carried out a preliminary structural analysis for the outer fabric, then our geometry was passed to the fabricator who completed the detailed design and developed the patterns for manufacture. We liaised closely with them to reanalyse the steel frame, for their revised loads and coordinated their interface details.

We liaised carefully with installers to agree the erection sequencing. This process was very thoroughly considered to ensure the structure remained stable throughout, and did not become overloaded at any point.
