‘Perspectives’ is a curvaceous pavilion formed from a steel skeleton clad in Cedar Shingles.
Its geometry offers a sheltered place for visitors to sit and take in the view of the Surrey Hills at Winterfold.
The steel bars cantilever and the timber shingles flatten out toward the edges of the open side to blur the boundary between enclosed and open space.
We constructed a complete 3d digital model of the steel frame and analysed it against various permutations of imposed loads in order to minimise the steel section sizes.
We worked closely with Giles Miller and Weber Industrues to detail the framework carefully to allow simple fabrication, and ultimately transportation and installation to the remote site.
